Abstract: IMS Standards: Impacting Teaching and Learning Through Standards (Educause)

Next week is the Educause conference – one of my favorite weeks of the year! I will be giving several talks at vendor booths on the trade show floor about IMS specs and doing sweet demos of our latest IMS wizardry and gadgetry. So far I am scheduled to appear at the Unicon, Desire2Learn, and Blackboard booths with my “IMS Road Show”. Later I will send out times if folks want to stop by. Here is my abstract. Even though this is about standards, it will be exciting and action packed!

This talk will cover the emerging IMS standards for Common Cartridge, Tools Interoperability, and Learning Information Services and how these standards stand to impact teachers in positive ways. By allowing software and content to be “plugged in” to many learning management systems using the same interoperable interfaces and data formats, teachers are free to adopt best-of-breed tools and share content with each other. Particular attention has been paid to insure that standards like IMS Learning Tools Interoperability interoperate seamlessly across the major learning platforms. This presentation will feature demonstrations of live tools and content integrated into Learning Management Systems using these standards.
