Tuning Virtual PC on My Mac

Notes on tuning Virtual PC on the Mac.

(In VPC) Settings -> Edit -> Set PC Memory – set to 512 – let the Mac to the paging – see below.
MyComputer – Right Click -> Properties -> Advanced -> Settings -> Visual Effects – Set to “Adjust to best performance”
MyComputer – Right Click -> Properties -> Advanced -> Settings -> Advanced -> Virtual Memory -> Change – Turn off virtual memory. Yes – at some point when you run 10 simultaneous programs you will run out of memory – but since VPC is so slow you won’t want to anyways. So for running 1-2 programs this allows the Mac to do the VM workather then an emulated 386 doing the swapping to an emulated disk. This will also keep your disk image smaller by 3/4 GB on the mac – why store all that paging space that is worthless bits when the XP OS reboots.
MyComputer – Right Click -> Properties -> System Restore – Turn this off.
Right Click on Desktop -> Properties -> Desktop – Set to “None” – having an image in the background is silly.
Defragment your hard drive after you are done with the major stuff like windows update, etc. I am not sure how this improves things – but the graphs look nice and pretty. And with no paging space, there are less of those annoying green areas which cannot be optimozed.
