{"id":5845,"date":"2021-01-19T00:13:53","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T04:13:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dr-chuck.com\/csev-blog\/?p=5845"},"modified":"2021-01-19T00:13:53","modified_gmt":"2021-01-19T04:13:53","slug":"tsugi-has-converted-from-silex-to-lumen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dr-chuck.com\/csev-blog\/2021\/01\/tsugi-has-converted-from-silex-to-lumen\/","title":{"rendered":"Tsugi has Converted from Silex to Lumen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Tsugi project is mostly libraries (i.e. tsugi-php) but it also has a set of LMS like features like Lessons, Badges, Assignments, etc.\u00a0 (i.e. koseu-php).\u00a0 Historically the Koseu tools uses the Silex framework because it was lightweight and allowed the mixing of Silex routes with regular PHP patterns on a path-by-path basis.<\/p>\n<p>But alas, Silex (<a href=\"https:\/\/silex.symfony.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/silex.symfony.com\/<\/a>) was written by the same folks who wrote Symfony and tey decided that Silex users should just be converted to Symfony.\u00a0 Which of course is exactly the opposite of why I chose Silex in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>So Tsugi has been running back-leveled software since 2018.\u00a0 And as things like PHP versions progressed some of our back leveled software ended up with warning messages that we had to work around.\u00a0 One back-leveled component causes a ripple effect.<\/p>\n<p>So now we have removed the obsolete software and are using the Lumen framework (<a href=\"https:\/\/lumen.laravel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/lumen.laravel.com\/<\/a>) and can advance the versions of PHP and our other dependencies so our stack is more modern.<\/p>\n<p>Time will tell if the Lumen framework or Laravel will help move Tsugi forward.\u00a0 These frameworks tend to have a sweet spot of the &#8220;single monolithic application&#8221; instead of allowing a series of smaller cooperating &#8220;apps&#8221; like Tsugi has become.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Tsugi project is mostly libraries (i.e. tsugi-php) but it also has a set of LMS like features like Lessons, Badges, Assignments, etc.\u00a0 (i.e. koseu-php).\u00a0 Historically the Koseu tools uses the Silex framework because it was lightweight and allowed the mixing of Silex routes with regular PHP patterns on a path-by-path basis.
